Welcome to the Undergraduate English Society Blog

We are the UC Undergraduate English Society, and we are forming in hopes of creating a network of students to help and encourage one another
in our cultural and academic interests.

We will work to bring experts to campus to talk about what to do with your English degrees, how to prepare for Grad School, how to get published and the like. We will also go on "field trips," including local shows, plays, and other events outside of the University. We will host readings for undergraduate creative writers. We hope to have workshops which will help those who need critiques for revisions before submitting work for publication as well as for academic papers.

Meeting for the group will be held the third Friday of every month. We hope to hear from those of you who are interested in joining beforehand so we can add you to our list serve and keep you posted on upcoming events and agendas.

Coming up soon:

** The last week of October, (exact date and location yet to be determined) we'll host a discussion with Graduate students and Faculty on getting into and maximizing your time in Graduate School. This informal but informative discussion will serve to help undergraduates learn about what to expect, what to avoid, and what to do when preparing for and entering into Graduate programs in English studies.

** And on Oct. 28-Nov.3, there will be a book festival called Books By the Banks. As stated at their website:

Books by the Banks will feature author readings, panel presentations, workshops, interviews, children's events, school related activities and entertainment, culminating in a successful one day celebration on November 3, 2007.

See their Web page at http://www.cincinnatilibrary.org/news/2007/booksbythebanks.html for more information. Please also note that Brock Clarke will be speaking on a panel of four authors. From the Books by the Banks website:

The discussion will take place somewhere on or near campus, location yet to be determined.
